Broadway

Now best known as a casino resort, Atlantic City holds a long and distinguised history. First it was envisioned as a "bathing village and health resort" by local physician Dr. Jonathan Pitney. He was joined by businessmen anxious to develop a resort in southern New Jersey, and the group received the first railroad charter in 1852 connecting Camden, New Jersey with the new sight. Engineer Richard Osborne designed and named the new creation "Atlantic City".
